THE ÅMOT FAMILY
Hearty Heritage
The Åmot Estate is owned by Steinar Sørli & Yngve Brakstad. It has been in Steinar’s family since it was built by Søren, his great-grandfather in 1885. Åmot has been passed down through five generations, and the devotion from the Sørli family is ever-present in the homestead and its surrounding land.
For many years, Åmot was at the heart of family life. The men worked the land, rearing livestock and nurturing seasonal produce, while the women smoked, pickled, baked and cooked, feeding a community, and creating a culture of compassion. The estate has a bond beyond the familiar, but also a deeply rooted connection to the local community.
Humble Hosts
Steinar Sørli has a strong connection to the estate and the unwavering devotion of his ancestors is reflected in his work. Residing at Åmot full time, Steinar’s warmth and deep dedication to his guests makes him pivotal to the Åmot experience. An experienced architect, Steinar’s husband Yngve Brakstad, has his personal touch imprinted across the property. His eye for design is evident throughout Åmot. Yngve brings a wealth of historical knowledge about the property, its people, the local region and its flora & fauna.
